Prototype--Week3--Power-Ups!

*Disclaimer, this is more of a week 2 post, being posted in week 3 as most of this development happened last week.*

So with Snail Trails being a type of "kart-racing" style racing game, we thought it has to have some sort of Power-Up the players can use to their advantage!

With the game using the 'unexpectedly opposite' theme, we had to come up with power-ups that wouldnt necessarily speed up the player but rather make them either go slower, keep them at the same pace or have the ability to speed up their opposition.

We came up with 3 simple power-ups to begin with, these being a brake power up, a more enchanced powered up slime trail and a shell bomb, with the potential to add more down the line of development! the player would drive through one of the power-up boxes that are scattered around the track and get given one of three power-ups randomly. Below is a description and preview of what the power-up looks like in game currently. (the names are pending for them, and we are open to suggestions

The player is able to tell which power-up they have with what icon is displayed in the top right corner of the UI, These are actually 3D models that spin on the pivot and we think they look pretty great!

Brake Recharge: This power up instantly refills the players brake meter back to full.

Powered Up Slime: This power up gives the player a new enchanced slime trail for a fixed amount of time. This trail is a permanent trail that doesnt disappear like the regular trail, Later on, the trail will *sparkle* and look generally better. (currently the only indicator the player has that it's powered up is it changes colour and doesnt disappear).

ShellBomb: This power up gives the player a "Shell bomb" to drop on the ground when the player uses the power up. The shell bomb acts a sort of obstacle for the players to avoid, and if a player runs into one of these "bombs" the player would get a speed boost. Currently its a bit hard to tell when the player runs into the shell other than it disappearing. this will be addressed in the future. Here is a Gif of the shell dropping:

here is a gif of running into the shell:

The power-ups definitely need some more "prettifying" but we are happy how they are working functionality wise.
